New Wine Forum, "Church and Science: Practical Engagement and Bridge Building" at Beaverton Foursquare Church -- Wednesday April 6th, 7:00-8:30 PM.

By Derrick Peterson

New Wine, New Wineskins is hosting a series of forums at local churches in the Greater Portland area in the weeks and months ahead in our endeavor to foster a constructive dialogue on faith and science. This pursuit is bound up with Multnomah Biblical Seminary's grant from the American Association for the Advancement of Science that is being overseen by New Wine.  In addition to these forums, the public is encouraged to join New Wine for our upcoming conference "Church and Science: Partners for the Common Good" (April 16th and 23rd) at Multnomah University.

New Wine is partnering with Beaverton Foursquare Church  for one of these forums Wednesday April 6th from 7:00-8:30pm in order to provide a panel discussion on practical engagement and bridge-building in Church and Science.  New Wine, New Wineskin's Director Dr. Paul Louis Metzger and Mark Nicklas (Doctor of Ministry candidate, and Missions & Outreach Pastor at Beaverton Foursquare) will be leading the discussion of panelists including Dr. Jason Curtis (Pastor, Sunset Presbyterian), Dr. Christina Chen (Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry), Sharad Yadav (Pastor, Bread & Wine Church), and Mr. Matt Curfman (technical advisor and architect at Intel).

Now more than ever we must strive to dialogue and partner with one another to create opportunities for practical engagement with the sciences for those in the church, and with the church for those in the sciences.  Given the widespread perception of irreconcilable antagonism between the two, it is important to debunk the myths that surround such hostility not just for the sake of truth, but for those who feel rent in two having to choose one or the other when they love both the church and the sciences.  Very often these attempts at reconciliation remain abstract however and many are left asking: what does this look like in practice?  Join us April 6th to find out.

Beaverton Foursquare Church is located on 13565 SW Walker Road Beaverton, OR 97005.
